Dog-Friendly Parks and Trails Near Jacksonville Beach

At PorchLight Stays, we believe every getaway is better with your best friend by your side. Whether you’re visiting Jacksonville Beach for a weekend retreat or settling in for a longer stay, this coastal town has plenty of open spaces where dogs can run, splash, and explore.
Here are our favorite dog-friendly parks and trails near Jacksonville Beach — all within a short drive (or walk) from your stay.
1. Jacksonville Beach Dog Park (Paws Park)
Location: 468 Penman Rd S, Jacksonville Beach, FL
A local favorite for pups and their people, Paws Park offers shaded benches, water fountains, and large fenced areas for both big and small dogs. It’s clean, safe, and social — the perfect place to let your dog burn off some energy after a morning walk on the beach.
Pro tip: Bring a towel for muddy paws if you go after rain — the sprinkler area can get a little playful.
2. Castaway Island Preserve
Location: 2921 San Pablo Rd S, Jacksonville, FL
If your pup loves an adventure, head to Castaway Island Preserve, about 15 minutes from the beach. This scenic trail system winds through salt marshes, boardwalks, and shaded nature paths — all dog-friendly (on leash). You’ll spot local wildlife and stunning views of the Intracoastal along the way.
Perfect for: Early morning hikes or sunset strolls with your four-legged explorer.
3. Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park
Location: 500 Wonderwood Dr, Jacksonville, FL
This 450-acre coastal park is one of Jacksonville’s hidden gems — and yes, dogs are welcome! Hanna Park offers miles of shaded trails, beach access, freshwater lakes, and campgrounds. It’s perfect for active dogs and their owners who love to hike, paddleboard, or just take in the ocean breeze.
Note: Dogs must stay on leash in most areas and are not permitted on the main swimming beach.
4. Gonzales Park
Location: 1000 15th St N, Jacksonville Beach, FL
If you’re looking for a low-key outing close to home, Gonzales Park is a quiet neighborhood spot with walking paths, open lawns, and plenty of shade. While it’s not an off-leash park, it’s perfect for a quick stroll or casual playtime before grabbing a coffee from nearby Sago or Bold Bean.
5. Atlantic Beach Dog-Friendly Access Points
Location: Various access points along Beach Ave, Atlantic Beach, FL
Just a short drive north of Jax Beach, Atlantic Beach offers some of the most beautiful stretches of dog-friendly sand in the area. Leashed pets are welcome year-round, especially early in the morning or around sunset when the beach is calm and golden.
Bring: Fresh water, waste bags, and your camera — the light here is made for dog portraits.
